Gassa Camp
A River Untouched. An Experience Unmatched.
Explore waters where wild fish and raw nature still reign.
Hidden within one of West Africa’s last ecologically intact savannah landscapes, Gassa Camp offers a fly fishing adventure like no other. Set along a remote 60 km stretch of the Faro River, bordering Faro National Park, this destination delivers a rare opportunity to target Nile perch on fly in a setting defined by untouched Sahelo-Sudanian wilderness and thriving biodiversity. What began as a decade-long search for world-class perch fishing has evolved into a deeply immersive experience—where fly anglers can explore pristine river systems, encounter remarkable wildlife, and enjoy expert-guided days from a comfortable seasonal tented camp. With small group sizes, rich birdlife, and a sense of raw, unspoiled Africa, Gassa Camp stands out as one of the continent’s most unique freshwater fly fishing expeditions.

Fish Species

Unrivalled Fishing Opportunities

Set in one of West Africa’s last wild savannahs, Gassa Camp offers a freshwater fly fishing experience like no other. The Faro River flows through this remote landscape, providing a dynamic and untouched environment for adventurous anglers.

Trophy Species
From explosive night-time battles with trophy Nile perch to sight-casting surface flies at aggressive tigerfish and elusive Niger barb, the variety is exceptional. The perch feed hard under cover of darkness, while the daytime action delivers visual, technical fishing in crystal-clear water for powerful Sahelian species.

Wild Terrain, Wild Fishing
All fishing is done on foot, deep in big game territory, with anglers rigging 5wt to 12wt setups to match the wide range of species and conditions. Rocky runs, shallow sandbanks, and deep pools offer endless opportunities in this true multi-species fishery.

Conservation Through Adventure
Each guest plays a vital role in protecting this high-priority ecosystem. Your presence supports anti-poaching units, local conservation efforts, and the long-term preservation of one of the continent’s most ecologically valuable river systems.

Adventurous Experiences Beyond Fishing

  • Iconic Wildlife Sightings: While not a traditional game-viewing destination, daily drives between camp and the fishing beats often reveal signs—and sometimes sightings—of signature species like Lord Derby eland, northwestern buffalo, western roan, red river hog, western kob, and even lion and leopard.

  • Riverside Wild Camping: For those seeking deeper immersion, spend a night camping wild on a secluded riverside beach. Chosen for its safety, proximity to prime water, and sweeping views, it’s an unforgettable night under the stars.

Accommodation

Gassa Camp is a seasonal tented camp set beneath forest canopy on the banks of the Faro River, ideally positioned within a 75,000ha private concession. It features four comfortable Meru tents, each with river views, and a central Bedouin-style lounge and dining area. Evenings are spent around a campfire, and mornings begin with coffee and the sounds of the bush.
The camp includes open-air bathrooms with hot showers, flush toilets, and modern comforts like 220v power, charging stations, and optional Starlink Wi-Fi.

With strict catch-and-release policies and de-barbed single hooks only, the program is built on sustainable fly fishing practices that ensure lasting impact.
