SALALAH AND THE DHOFAR REGION
Wild, Remote, and World-Class Fly Fishing in the Middle East
A Hidden Gem for Adventurous Anglers
Southern Oman’s Dhofar Governorate is a spectacular coastal region, offering an untouched fly-fishing paradise. Known for its pristine beaches, dramatic mountains, and rich history, this area has been a thriving trading hub since the 12th century. The monsoon season (Khareef) from July to August transforms the landscape, turning it lush and green—a stark contrast to the desert beauty of the Arabian Peninsula. The coast features a unique blend of sandy shores and rugged rocky outcrops, providing an ideal habitat for a variety of powerful game fish. With warm, fish-filled waters, this region is one of the most exciting and remote saltwater fly-fishing destinations in the world.

Fish Species

Peak Season: September – April Best Weather & Conditions: October – April (25-32°C, light winds) This is one of the few places in the world offering a viable fishery for Africanus Permit, an aggressive, powerful species known for its extreme fights in rocky, turbulent shorelines. Trevally, queenfish, and other exciting species add to the variety, ensuring an action-packed experience for avid saltwater fly anglers.

Conservation and Sustainability

Southern Oman’s fishery is managed with strict conservation in mind, including a 100% catch-and-release policy for permit and trevally. To protect the fishery, each boat is limited to four permit per day, and barbless hooks are encouraged to reduce fish stress. The operation also supports local communities, promoting sustainable and responsible fishing practices.
